Greensboro, NC -- Thursday, Gabby Douglas won the Olympic gold medal in the gymnastics all-around competition. What many people do not know is that Douglas moved away from her family to Iowa to train for the Olympics.
Other athletes have left their families for years just to train for these events.We went to Proehlific Park Sports Complex to ask trainers and parents their take on training their child athletes.
Morgan Pointer, a 14-year old basketball player, has dreams and aspirations to play Division 1 college basketball. She also hopes to play in the WNBA one day. Morgan's mother feels strongly about supporting, and pushing, Morgan as she strives to become the best athlete she can be.
Nyah Stallings is also a dedicated basketball player. At 10-years-old, Stallings can dribble two basketballs up and down the court, and hit a 3 point shot. Nyah's father says it is her decision how far she wants to go. His priority is for her to have fun, and still have a life outside of basketball.
