Amtrak Collides With Tractor-Trailer In Jamestown

Jamestown, NC--  Thursday around 1:26pm in Jamestown a Tractor-Trailer and an Amtrak collided. It happened on Dillion Road near Ragsdale Rd, according to Highway Patrol.

Trooper Greg Ingram said the train hit the truck's trailer as it was crossing the tracks. The collision caused the trailer to split and spill the cargo.

Guilford County EMS said in all three people were transported with minor injuries from the crash.

Friday, Trooper Ingram confirmed that the driver of the Semi was cited. Ingram said Julian L. Veal, 47 out of Roanoke, AL, was cited for stopping at a railroad crossing. According to NC Highway Patrol, it's a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) violation.

The train was coming from Charlotte and heading to Raleigh. The passengers were evacuated from the train and held at the Jamestown Library, until Amtrak was able to take them to Raleigh. 

The semi was transporting 30,000lbs of lime stone which spilled when the truck was hit. The cleanup took several hours.
