Greensboro, NC - Crowds may not be headed to Charlotte for the Democratic National Convention yet, but law enforcement officers are already in place.
150 officers with the Greensboro Police Department left early Saturday morning for the Queen City. Leaving their patrol cars and bikes behind, the officers loaded up on three tour buses packed and ready to go. GPD officers will help with crowd and riot control, security, and traffic control. More than 40 bicycle officers will be stationed in downtown Charlotte as a part of a mobile patrolling unit.
"They're trained, I am confident in the work that our folks can do down there and deliver for the Charlotte/Mecklenburg Police Department for these needs at this convention," explained Chief Ken Miller, Greensboro Police Department.
GPD will join thousands of law enforcement officers from around the state and country, including some from the Guilford County Sheriff's Office and High Point Police.
