Police: Baby Had Drugs In System, Mom Charged

Thomasville, NC-- A nine month-old is recovering after ingesting drugs, according to the Thomasville Police Department.

In a news release, Police stated that on September 5, Detectives were contacted by hospital staff in reference to a baby boy who had opiates in his system.

Detectives said the child was taken to the hospital in Thomasville after the mom called 911. The baby was later transfered to Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem and staff their contacted police after discovering the child had painkiller medicine in his system.

After investigating, Officers arrested and charged Patricia Wiles, the boy's mother. Wiles is charged with Felony Child Abuse and Possesion of Oxycotin.

Police are not releasing information on how the child was able to get drugs in his system. 

Wiles was placed in the Davidson County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond. Investigators said the child has been released from the hospital.
