Greensboro, NC-- Guilford County Emergency Services and the Guilford County Sheriff's Department are encouraging residents and drivers to take part in the Yellow Dot Program.
It's not uncommon for them to use critical time searching for who the victims is and what they're medical background is like pre-existing conditions or medical allergies.
The program assists first responders in emergency situations. People are given a yellow folder including a yellow dot decal. You place the dot on either your windshield or front door, indicating that your emergency contact and medical information can be found in the glove box or refrigerator.
Cpl. Bryan Herndon of the Guilford County Sheriff's Office said, "Having that vital, medical information right there at the scene right there with the patient, so that they can properly treat that person will aide in their chances of survival."
If you're unconscious or can't communicate, it helps with identification, allergies, medical conditions, and even language barriers in life-saving situations where every second counts.
Often during an emergency, people are injured or in shock and cannot communicate personal medical information emergency personnel need to know, nor do they have a family member present who can relay that information.
"This product as well as some of the others that are out now really changed the way that we can do business and it has I'm sure saved many people's lives," said Rick Miller, Shift Commander with the Guilford County EMS.
