Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano
confirmed on Monday that wide receiver Austin Collie would be placed on
injured reserve after suffering a season-ending knee injury during the team's
Week 3 game against Jacksonville.
Collie ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee after catching a pass
during the third quarter of Sunday's 22-17 loss to the Jaguars at Lucas Oil
Stadium, and will require surgery.
The brittle fourth-year pro had just returned from a concussion that kept him
out of the Colts' first two games.
"It's terrible," Pagano said. "We feel awful about the loss, but in the big
picture, you feel awful for a guy like Austin that has battled through so many
things in his career and then go out and have this happen. You hate to see
anybody get injured on the football field, but I feel really bad about
Austin."
Collie, a fourth-round pick of Indianapolis in 2009, recorded 54 catches for
514 yards last season and amassed 58 receptions for 649 yards and eight
touchdowns in 2010, despite missing seven games that season because of two
separate concussions.
"We all know Austin's history and what he's been through and what he's dealt
with as far as the concussions go to get himself through this last one and get
back on the playing field," Pagano continued. "Then the first time he gets out
there, he's playing well and playing fast, and then to have something like
that happen, you just feel awful for the kid."
To take Collie's place on the roster, the Colts signed rookie wide receiver
Nathan Palmer off the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad.
