Greensboro, NC -- Another soldier with ties to the Triad has been killed in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Justin Cameron Marquez grew up in Aberdeen, NC.  However, his mother is from Greensboro and his grandmother and two aunts still live here.

According to the Department of Defense, Marquez was killed in Chak district, Wardak Province, Afghanistan on Oct. 6.  He died of a gunshot wound suffered while on dismounted patrol.

Marquez's aunt, Debbie Cameron Lambeth, told News 2 that he was Army Special Forces and had been stationed at Fort Bragg before he was deployed to Afghanistan.

She said the 25-year-old had only been in Afghanistan for a month and a half, after he had trained for 3 ½ years.

Marquez's family returned from North Carolina from Dover on Tuesday afternoon, where they had a service for him.

Lambeth said Marquez's family hopes he flies into Moore County by Friday, so they can have a funeral service for him in Aberdeen.  Marquez will be buried at Bethesda Cemetery.

Lambeth said Marquez was a twin, and his twin is headed to basic training for the Navy in December.
