NC Governor's Debate: Round 2 Recap

Research Triangle Park, NC -- The candidates for governor took the stage tonight in the second round of debates before the Nov. 6 elections.

In Tuesday night's debate, candidates Pat McCrory and Walter Dalton discussed education, faith and negative advertising, along several other topics.

Here's a recap of the night through a few tweets from @digtriad:

EDUCATION

@digtriad: McCrory: We need 2 pathways to success out of high school. Vocational courses and college curriculum courses. Plan would reduce drop out rate, and create more jobs. My goal is to get these students jobs #ncdebate

FAITH

@digtriad: Dalton: Faith plays a tremendous role in my life. God listens to all prayer and when things get tough, that's where I go. #ncdebate

NEGATIVE ADS

@digtriad: Dalton: If you think our ads are negative, maybe it's a negative truth #ncdebate

@digtriad: McCrory: On the money I control, on the Pat McCrory ad, you will not see one negative ad. I don't think we need that to win NC #ncdebate

CLOSING STATEMENTS

@digtriad: Dalton: McCrory has an allegiance to special interest. As gov, I will be accountable to you. I will respect teachers, education, and will work to bring more jobs to NC. #ncdebate

@digtriad: McCrory: we need positive leadership. This is why I'm running only positive ads. I'm running a constructive campaign to show that it's honorable to get involved in public service. We need positive leadership to be able to work together #ncdebate

UNC Greensboro adjunct professor Thom Little watched the debate and participated in a live chat in the WFMY News 2 Information Center. When asked if he thought there was a clear winner, Little said, "if you look at purely debating points, I think Dalton was probably the winner. I thought he was more concise, he was more focused, looked at the camera more, but if you look at what each of them needed to do, probably McCrory's the winner."
