Greensboro, NC -- Your tax dollars at work again and again.

Guilford County Schools has come in under budget on several bond projects and by a wide margin.

The district has about $22.5 million left from the 2008 bond referendum.

So 27 additional schools and two district offices will get upgrades including a new track at Southeast High School, security cameras at Southwest High.

GCS Executive Director of Facilities and Construction Robert Melton said, "We have heating and air conditioning systems that need to be replaced, electrical improvements. We have parking lots we need to deal with."

Melton attributes a lot of the savings to the recession which encouraged lower bids from construction companies who were eager to land projects.
