GREENSBORO - Seven Red Cross volunteers from Greensboro and four from Winston-Salem left to help with relief efforts in New Jersey.
Thousands are sleeping in shelters in the Northeast after superstorm Sandy's destructive impact. Local volunteers are helping at those shelters.
"I serve food, I helped set up and down stuff. It doesn't take any special skills, any special knowledge," said volunteer Steve Smith. "It just takes a willingness to help."
If you want to help, you have to go through the Red Cross's training program before leaving. From the Triad, you can donate money and blood.
Text 90999 to donate $10 to the Red Cross. The Salvation Army, Humane Society and Feeding America are also in need of donations.
