Nearly 200 Soldiers To Return To Triad Friday

Greensboro, NC -- Nearly 200 soldiers from the Triad will get a big welcome home from friends and family Friday afternoon.

The soldiers, from the North Carolina National Guard's 883rd/881st Route Clearance Company, will host a welcome home ceremony at First Baptist Church.

The combat engineers recently returned from a year-long deployment in Afghanistan as a part of Operation New Dawn. The unit specializes in demolition, breaching operations and detection and clearance of explosives.

The Company trained members the Aghan National Army, conducted route-clearance and reconnaissance operations, gathered information on the local population and performed foot patrols.

The group, which is stationed in Rockingham, Roseboro and Winston-Salem deployed in August 2011.
