Greensboro, N.C. - Master-at-Arms First Class Petty Officer Tim Moore is a U.S. Navy reservist. He's leaving Wednesday to get ready for his front-row seat to history.
"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I feel honored to have been chosen," Moore said. "I would imagine that I'm going to have the opportunity to have some pretty close access to some of the things that are going on. That's pretty exciting. Who gets to do that?"
Moore is one of fifty Navy Reserve Officers selected from across the country to help with the 2013 Presidential inauguration.
For most of us, the inauguration is a one-day event. However, Moore will spend three weeks in Washington training to be an executive driver.
"It's something I will be able to talk about to my son when he's an adult and I'll say, 'Hey, dad was a part of history.'"
Moore's son, Caleb, will miss his dad, but understands the job is important. "He needs to help the President," Caleb said.
Moore's girlfriend, Anika Quinn, will help look after Caleb while he is away."The support network is crucial for our military. When they are sent off like this, it's very important that they know and understand their kids are taken care of...I'm really ecstatic that he's been selected and that he's going to get to go and do this. It's really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Who else do you know that's had this opportunity?"
Being away from loved ones will also place a strain on Moore. However, he's confident his support network will remain strong while he is in Washington, D.C. "You think about your family....What's going on back at home?...Did your son get his homework done today?"
In addition to his role in the Navy, Moore is also a Greensboro Police Officer. Later this month, about forty Greensboro Police Officers will join thousands of other law enforcement officers to assist with the 2013 Presidential Inauguration.
