Salisbury, NC -- Teachers who want to know about firearms got their chance this weekend in Rowan County.

The Salisbury Post reported (http://bit.ly/Ze7MUzLocal) that the Rowan County Wildlife Association offered free classes in firearms instructions in case legislators approve bill to let teachers carry guns.

About 30 teachers and administrators from Rowan, Davidson, Cabarrus and Mecklenburg counties took the class Saturday.

The course is the first step in obtaining a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Another class will be held March 9 at the Rowan County Wildlife Association in Salisbury.

Schools across the US have been looking at security after the attack Dec. 14, 2012, at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., that left 20 children and six workers dead.
