WADE, N.C. -- A tractor-trailer carrying pigs overturned while trying to merge on I-95 S near Fayetteville Wednesday morning, according to a report from WRAL.
Ronnie Copeland, the driver of the truck, told WRAL many of the 185 pigs he was transporting did not survive.
No human injuries were reported.
Copeland said he swerved to avoid a wrong-way driver on the ramp, causing his truck to flip on its side.
WRAL said Copeland was driving the pigs from Newton Grove to the Smithfield packing plant in Bladen County. The surviving pigs were loaded onto another truck.
It was not clear if Copeland will be charged. No information was released about the wrong-way driver that Copeland referred to.
The left lane of I-95 at Exit 58 was closed around 8:30 a.m. and reopened around 12:45 p.m..
