Since the late 1970s, Greensboro-Guilford County Crime Stoppers has helped investigators solve more than 7,000 cases in Greensboro and Guilford County.
Despite the success, there are still people in the community who are reluctant to call. Assistant Coordinator Brittany Wheeles and secretary for the board of directors, Kelly Eakes said some people are afraid of someone knowing they gave information about an incident, or person.
Saturday, anyone can stop by the Ashley Furniture HomeStore at 1705 South 40 Drive in Greensboro to learn more about Crime Stoppers.
Anyone who has information about a crime and wants to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 373-1000, or text BADBOYZ to 274637. Once a caller provides all the information they have, Crime Stoppers will provide them with a code number and ask them to stay in touch so they can find out if they are eligible for a cash reward (up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest or indictment). If they are eligible for the reward, Crime Stoppers will provide them with the information to pick that money up.
Crime Stoppers is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, so all the funding is made through donations and fundraisers. No tax-payer money is used. All donations made to Crime Stoppers are tax deducible.
