Greensboro, NC -- Police are releasing more details about the man they arrested in connection with the murder of Regan Bailey.

Investigators say Jonathan Newell dated Bailey and attended church with her. Their relationship reportedly ended two years ago.

Captain Janice Rogers said the two would talk on the phone and communicate via the internet.

Rogers said Newell most likely entered Bailey's home two days before her mother discovered her body.

Regan Bailey's father is relieved, but still in mourning a day after police arrested a man in connection with Bailey's murder.

Daniel Bailey said, "I am just glad he is off the street and arrested. It's not going to bring my daughter back. But I'm glad he's off the street for the community's sake."

Newell, 30, of Lovette Street was arrested around 7:00pm Tuesday. Police charged him with first degree murder for the death of Regan Bailey.

Newell will be held in Guilford County Jail without bond.

In January, Lois Bailey found the body of her 26-year-old daughter in their home in the 300 block of Willoughby Boulevard.

Police found Regan's van less than three miles away near Lees Chapel and Mizell Roads.

An autopsy report released in April said Bailey died of asphyxiation due to ligature strangulation around her neck. In addition, the medical examiner said Bailey had cuts and bruises to her face.
