High Point, NC -- High Point police are investigating allegations of a rape at Southwest High School Thursday afternoon.
Officer Mike Nixon, resource officer for SW Guilford, tells WFMY News 2 that the alleged sexual assault took place around 12:25 p.m. during a lunch period. He says it did not happen inside the school building.
Nixon says the victim, a 15-year-old girl, notified a teacher following the assault. She then went to the principal's office. Her family arrived at the school shortly thereafter. The victim was then taken to the hospital for a full medical examination.
Police say the suspect is a 16-year-old student. At this time, charges have not been filed.
Detectives are questioning students that may have knowledge of the incident. There were no witnesses to the assault, however there are security cameras on the campus.
Guilford County School leaders say they are also investigating the alleged rape.
