Winston-Salem, NC -- Boy Scouts celebrate their centennial next year, but a special RV made a stop in the Triad to preview the party.
Eagle Scout David Oakley is one of a group traveling part of the nation for the Century of Values Road Tour. "We're traveling about 1200 miles, rolling down through Alabama and ending up in Knoxville, Tennessee."
The Century of Values tour stopped at the Old Hickory Council's headquarters this afternoon. In each city, they presented local leaders with a mural depicting important people, events, and symbols from scouting history.
Old Hickory Council President Alan Proctor says sharing 100 years of scouting history with present scouts helps show how scouting remains relevant today. "What hasn't changed is also what's changed, it's cool to be green again, the idea of being, adventuring, and doing adventurous activities, sort of being outdoors, the rock climbing, the canoeing, all those things are exciting today as they were 50 years ago or 100 years ago."
Each leg of the RV trip covers a different region. In all, the RV will cover more than 45,000 miles, and end its tour in February 2010.
