Winston-Salem, NC -- The government is increasing the fuel efficiency standards for future cars. But today some students at the Career Center introduced their own upgrades.
They created go-karts that run on electricity, biodiesel, methanol, and ethanol. Photojournalist Sonnet Treptow gets us answers on what's the best fuel to get these karts going green. Click play in the video window to watch the races and hear from some of the student inventors.
Team Senioritis was the day's big winner. Their go-kart ran on methanol. In fact, the first, second, and third place go-karts ran on methanol. The next closest kart ran on electricity.
School representatives say things outside the fuel may have played a role in the go-kart's performance, including the car's design, and of course, the driver.
