
Moravian Falls, NC -- Rescue crews evacuated several families from rising waters in Wilkes County.
The rescue efforts took place in a mobile home community on Germantown Road in Moravian Falls. 30 people were evacuated from six mobile homes. The Red Cross put most of the families up in a local hotel.
Kevin Bounds, Wilkes County Fire Marshall, says that water levels were 2-3 feet in some homes in the evacuated areas.
Between 5-6am, the rescue crews used two boats to take the residents to safety. The families were taken to the Moravian Falls Fire Department where a temporary shelter had been set up.

Wilkes County Schools were closed for the day. They will make the day up this Saturday.
