
Clemmons, NC-- Tuesday night storms sent one fire official to the hospital, took down many trees and left several people without power.
Crews started about 7:00 pm removing trees and powerlines around the Triad. One of the hardest hit areas was around Harper Road and Highway 158 in Clemmons. Tanglewood Park also had numerous reports of downed trees.
In Radolph County, a fire official's car was hit head-on while he was waiting for crews to remove a tree that was blocking both lanes of Highway 22.
The accident happened just over the Guilford County Line in Climax. Highway Patrol tells WFMY News 2 a tree was down blocking both north and south bound lanes on Highway 22 and it was pouring down rain.
A Randolph Co. Fire Squad car was sitting on the southbound side of the road with its emergency lights on, waiting for crews to come remove the tree. A truck pulling a trailer traveling was traveling north and hit the squad car head-on. The fire official was taken for observation, his injuries are not serious.
Trooper Allred with the Highway Patrol said the driver of the truck was cited for exceeding safe speed for conditions. The driver of the truck didn't see the car because it was raining so hard at the time of the accident.
