UNDATED -- USA Today has issued a special report called The Smokestack Effect. The newspaper used an EPA model to track the path of industrial pollution. It also mapped nearly 128,000 schools across the country to determine levels of toxic chemicals outside individual schools.

We found a number of schools in our area where they tested outdoor air quality including Randleman High School, Oak Ridge Elementary School in Guilford County and Calvary Baptist Day School in Winston-Salem.

The paper says the problem of toxic outdoor air quality is widespread and widely unaddressed. You can read the story and try and locate your school by visiting the USA Today website.

Get answers about how to respond to your school's outside air quality on the website.
