Greensboro, NC -- Middle school girls in Guilford County can now get the HPV vaccine at school.
The program, funding by a Duke Endowment Grant, is part of the "Don't Wait, Educate" campaign sponsored by the Guilford County Department of Health. With a parents permission, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls can get the first dose of the HPV vaccine at no out of pocket cost to parents.
Parents will need to bring their child's health insurance card or medicaid card if they have one.
Lincoln Academy and Brown Summit Middle School will host their clinics on Tuesday. Four other clinics will follow at other county middle schools.
The vaccine is recommended for 11-12 year-old girls to prevent HPV infection which can lead to cervical cancer. More information from the CDC.
