Raleigh, NC -- An autopsy of a North Carolina college student killed by police has been revised to show he was not suicidal before the night of the shooting.

The Chief Medical Examiner's report Thursday says there is no evidence 21-year-old Courtland Smith had indicated to friends he had suicidal thoughts or intent before the Aug. 23 shooting. The new report corrects a previous one that said he expressed suicidal thoughts.

Spokeswoman Sharon Artis says she could not say why the changes were made. The chief medical examiner was unavailable.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill junior was shot after being stopped by Archdale police on Interstate 85 in Randolph County. Smith called 911 from the road and said he was trying to kill himself. He told police he had been drinking and had a gun.
