Graham, NC -- Hazmat crews were called to the Wilco/Hess on Jimmie Kerr Road after a chemical spill.

It happened about 7:45 this morning and closed the Interstate 40/85 exit for about 15 minutes. It reopened about 8:30 am.

The Alamance County Fire Marshal's Office says the chemical was an additive used to make a soil fumigate. The chemical is corrosive in the state it was being transported.

The driver told authorities his load shifted and cracked his tote, causing the spill. About 330 gallons leaked from the truck.

Crews are now working to clean the parking lot area of the gas station and drainage ditch. They are also removing any soil they think might have been impacted. The spill was contained before reaching a nearby creek that feeds the Haw River.
