Staley, NC-- A small town located in Randolph County has filled its final Town Council Seat. After the November 3 elections the fifth seat ended with a tie vote between Tommy Williams and Richard DeGaetano. Each received 24 votes.
Williams and DeGaetano had until close of business on Friday, November 13 to call for a re-count by hand. Since, neither candidated made contact with the board of elections, they then had the right to draw a name from a pottery jar.
This morning at 8:30am, a name was drawn from a pottery jar for the fifth and final council seat. A person with the Randolph Co. Board of Elections, told WFMY News 2 that Richard DeGaetano was the winner.
When asked about the reaction from the winner and the loser, she laughed and said "neither candidate showed up for the drawing". She said they were in the process of contacting him to let him know he had won.
