Danville, VA -- A 15-year-old in Danville has been charged with felony assault after shooting at officers Wednesday morning.
The incident happened at a home on Chatham Avenue. Police say when they arrived, the juvenile barricaded himself in an upstairs room and started shooting at them with an air rifle. One officer sustained minor injuries when he was struck in the leg getting out of his car. Investigators also say the teen had shot his mother with the air rifle before they arrived.
Officers used a police shield to enter the room where the teen was at. They say the teenager continued pumping the rifle and shooting at them. The police officers were able to pin him down with the shield and take him into custody.
The 15-year-old is charged with felony assault for shooting at and striking the first officer and five counts of assault on a police officer for shooting at other officers on the scene. He was taken to the W.W. Moore Detention Facility.
