Advance, NC -- The search is on for a suspect accused of kidnapping a two-month-old.
Catalin Hoard is home safe with her mother tonight after disappearing Sunday.
Police in Conover issued an Amber Alert on Sunday night after they say 37-year-old Saturnino Ortega-Vidal took off with 2-month-old Catalin Hoard around 7:30 pm.
A Davie County deputy spotted and stopped Ortega-Vidal's car on I-40 around 1:45 Monday morning. While talking with the deputy, the suspect sped away and led deputies and Highway Patrol troopers on a brief chase.
Davie County dispatchers say Ortega-Vidal then bailed out of the car and ran away along Hwy 158 in Advance. Officers found Hoard safe inside the car.
The baby was reunited with her mother at Baptist Hospital, according to Conover police Sgt. Ronnie Morrow. The 2-month-old went to the hospital to be checked out, but doesn't appear to have sustained any injuries.
Davie County deputies used dogs to try and track the suspect, but say the dogs lost the scent due to rainy weather. Dispatchers say Forsyth County deputies and Winston-Salem police officers were also called in to help in the search.
Conover police tell WFMY News 2 that Ortega-Vidal is the boyfriend of the child's mother and took off with the girl after the couple got into an argument.
K-9 officers returned to the area Monday afternoon after the rain let up but no luck.
The deputy who made the initial stop is just thankful they safely rescued the child.
"I just thank God that it happened the way that it happened. Another officer, we try to critique what we do. And there was a couple of things that we felt that we might could have done different. And I made the statement of I believe everything happened perfectly because the child was unharmed," explained Corporal James Taylor.
Conover authorities have warrants out for Ortega-Vidal for kidnapping.
They say he could face more charges once he's arrested.
