Greensboro, NC -- Thousands of kids will have a merry Christmas thanks to Triad businesses and the US Marine Corps.

Friday, the Toys For Tots campaign kicked off with Operation Santa's Helper. The toy drive was set up outside Lambeth-Troxler funeral home and Ward Black Law on West Wendover Ave.

Greensboro Marines will take the donations collected Friday to the Walmart in Kernersville on Dec. 12. They will go to needy children in the community who might go without this Christmas.

"This year with the recession being so bad, so many parents are unable to do what they want to be able to do with their children," said Janet Black with Ward Black Law. "So, it's even a greater blessing for us."

Ward Black Law will continue to collect toys through Dec. 18.
