Mebane, NC-- A Triad elementary school found a unique way to start conversation and make some money. Anyone visiting may do a double take when they drive up to the front entrance of Garrett Elementary in Mebane because the school's playground equipment is out in the recess area.
The idea started when the Parent Teachers Organization was casting around for a novel way to raise funds for the school. Organizers decided to contact Heritage Playsets in Wake Forest, NC after seeing a display model on Highway 119 in nearby Mebane.
With the attitude of "nothing ventured, nothing gained", the PTO President, Julie DiLello, called the company. Paul Gorman, District Manager for Heritage Playsets, listened to her pitch for Garrett Elementary's annual fundraiser and said, much to her amazement, "Sure." That one-word answer now means that the school can raffle off the playset with no cost to the Garrett PTO.
Thanks to the unusual generosity of Heritage and it's affiliate, The Deck Xperts, visitors can go to Garrett Elementary on Old Hillsborough Road (Exit 152S on I85/40) and buy unlimited raffle tickets for $5.00 each (the drawing is tentatively scheduled for April 30, 2010) or to any student that attends Garrett Elementary and go home to visualize the handsome playset in their back yard.
Those who want to buy tickets but cannot travel to Garrett Elementary are invited to call 336.376.1741 or 919.563.2088 or email garrettPTO4@aol.com.
