The Big Belly Comes To Winston-Salem, It's No Play

Winston-Salem, NC -- You may notice a green machine next time you go to the Benton Convention Center.

It's called the 'big belly' a high-tech compacting trash can and recycling center. A solar panel charges the battery-operated compactor. It holds five times as much trash as a conventional trash can so the city doesn't need to service it nearly as often.

The 'big belly' sends an e-mail to Winston-Salem's Sanitation Department when it needs emptiying.

Waste Management donated 'big belly" to the city.
