Burlington -- Opening presents on Christmas morning is a tradition some people might take for granted. For others the presents are hard to come by. That's where Christmas Cheer of Alamance County steps in.
For 70 years it has distributed food and toys to those in need. That takes donations of money and new toys.
This year, the non-profit organization is getting help from local musicians.
Eighteen local artists and groups came together to record "Christmas Cheer from Alamance County Musicians."
The CD costs $15. All the proceeds go to Christmas Cheer.
"The way the CD helps of course is that it helps generate monetary funds. What that will allow us to do is continue to purchase the toys that I talked about for those 2,000 children that we buy for each year, to help us purchase clothing where we can to give to the children. To help us to purchase food when necessary to augment what we have," said Dawn Sternal, executive director of Christmas Cheer.
The organization will continue to take monetary and new toy donations right up until Christmas.
People can donate new toys, clothing, non-perishable food and money directly to Christmas Cheer.
People can also sponsor one or more children or sponsor an elderly person
Last year Christmas Cheer helped more than 2,000 children and 180 elderly people.
