Greensboro, NC -- The way home inspectors write reports could change. The board that licenses North Carolina home inspectors is considering limiting what's included in summaries.

Next year, the board will vote whether to make the change. Certain safety information that is currently included in the summary would be moved to the body of the inspection report.

Some inspectors, like Marion Peeples, worry that information would get lost in long reports.

"When you take those things out of a summary of a report, which is right up at the very front, and bury them back in a report - in the body of the report, your customer may not read the entire report or may not give those things the attention they need, and that's what we're really worried about."

Others argue no information will be eliminated, only moved. Many Realtors think the change could standardize inspection reports.

The NC Home Inspector Licensure Board voted last week to delay a decision. Members will discuss the issue again at a meeting in March.
