Greensboro, NC -- Several Greensboro ministers are accusing a member of the Greensboro police department of dumping 50 boxes of files relating to the 1979 Klan-Nazi shootings.

In a news conference Tuesday morning, the ministers claim that Sergeant Craig McMinn destroyed the boxes sometime in 2004 or 2005. McMinn was in the special intelligence unit under former chief David Wray.

Reverends Cardes Brown, Gregory Headen, and Nelson Johnson would not name their source but say they learned of this issue in September of last year. In October, the say they met with then mayor Keith Holliday and city manager Mitch Johnson to discuss the matter.

Holliday said he thinks its "far-fetched" that officer threw away 50 boxes into a dumpster without anyone seeing it. He said he doesn't think officers would dump documents into a dumpster if they were trying to hide it. Holliday thinks if documents were thrown out, they could have been duplicates.

The ministers said they want the city to investigate. City leaders said they won't until they talk to the pastors' source or see other evidence. City leaders said they do not investigate based on third party information.

In a statement released late Tuesday afternoon, Greensboro Police chief Tim Bellamy said he met with Rev. Johnson and requested more information on the allegations. He said that no evidence was produced and the persons identified were not willing to talk to investigators.

The statement also said that the police department provided 49 bound volumes of documents related to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission investigation into the matter between August 2005 and February 2006..
