Gibsonville, NC -- Easter weekend is the Guilford County Sheriff's Prison Farm chance to cash in.

Many see Easter and spring as a time for rebirth and new starts.
Local inmates are getting that chance with the flowers and plants they grow and sell.

This is the busiest weekend of the year for the Guilford County Sheriff's Prison Farm. Sergeant Rodney Woods said this is the time of the year when they make their money. "Since I've been at the farm, it has been the biggest weekend. Last year we did about 17,000 dollars in three days," said Woods.

Woods says the money goes back into the program, which allows it to pay for itself.

In his opinion, he said the best feature was that the inmates leave the prison with certificates that state the amount of hours they worked and their skills. He said many of them use their experience to find a job in the same field.

The farm sells 32 different varieties of flowers, 17 different types of tomatoes, and other vegetable plants.

If you want to check out the farm, it's open from 7a.m. to 5p.m. every day of the year.

You can find the farm at the intersection of County Farm Road and Howerton Road in Gibsonville, NC. See the map here.
