Greensboro, NC -- Severe storms moved across the Triad Wednesday dumping lots and lots of rain. All that water caused major problems for motorist and water rescue crews.

Guilford County Sheriff's department is investigating a drowning of woman who was on her Moped when it went into a creek. The incident happened on McCleansville Road near Hicone Road. A highway patrolman tried to save her.

Greensboro fire and rescue crews spent most of the dinner hours getting people out of their cars and blocking off streets to other cars, to prevent more people from being stranded.

A sinkhole almost swallowed a van on English Road near Apache St. no one was injured. The road is shutdown at English and Spencer indefinitely.

UNCG's police chief Jamie Herring tells WFMY News 2 that 12 buildings received some water intrusion. He said at one time dumpsters were floating around on campus. He says it's the worst he has seen in quite some time.

WFMY News 2 received calls from all cross the area including as far north as Yanceyville, reporting flooding and sometimes hail.

At one time, Greensboro police officers had to man nine intersections where the traffic signals quit working.

Just after 6 p.m. Guilford Metro 911 started getting call after call about flooding.

Assistant Fire Chief David Douglas tells WFMY News 2 in the early part of the storm, the areas of Highway 29 South, Reedy Fork and most of East and northeast downtown were the hardest hit.
