Greensboro -- The State Department of Justice is requiring an attorney for Prompt Med to appear at a hearing after hundreds of medical records were found in a dumpster and sitting alongside a street.
Last month, a 2 Wants to Know investigation revealed that more than 600 medical records from Battleground Urgent Care, which is now Prompt Med, were thrown away. Attorney The records contained personal information, such as social security numbers, copies of driver's licenses and medical history.
According to a spokesperson for the Attorney General, disposing of files with social security numbers is a state crime.
An investigative demand issued to Prompt Med's attorney requires her to attend a hearing on September 30th and produce several documents pertaining to Prompt Med's policy or procedure for disposing of documents and the person or company hired to perform those duties.
WFMY News 2 attempted to contact Prompt Med's attorney on Wednesday for comment, but our call was not returned. We obtained the investigative demand at 5 p.m. Wednesday, and WFMY News 2 we try again to reach out to Prompt Med's attorney on Thursday.
