Los Angeles, CA -- The decommissioned battleship USS Iowa is being moved to its final berth in the Port of Los Angeles. Once there, the warship will become a museum and tourist attraction.
Four tugs will pull the 887-foot-long vessel from a temporary berth Saturday afternoon and move it up the harbor's main channel, turn it around and then back down the channel to a permanent berth near San Pedro's World Cruise Center.
Some 800 guests were aboard for the move and ceremonies conducted by the warship's new owner, the Pacific Battleship Center.
Equipped with nine 16-inch guns, the Iowa saw action in World War II and the Korean War.
The battleship was decommissioned for the final time in 1990 and spent the past decade in the Suisun Bay mothball fleet.
