BAR HARBOR, Maine (WLBZ) -- A massive Sperm Whale was recently found dead in Frenchman Bay. Now researchers in Bar Harbor are eagerly collecting data in hopes of learning what caused the animal's death.
Dr. Sean Todd is the Director of a group called Allied Whale. He is lead a team of researchers as they dissected the rarely seen whale.
The cause of death is unknown but Sperm Whales have few natural predators. Hunting Sperm Whales was outlawed in 1986.
Todd says pollution and human interaction can lead to the death of many sea creatures.
The Sperm Whale bones will be put on display at the Bar Harbor Whale Museum. The cause of death should be known when the research findings are released in about six months.
