Belcher's Mother, Cheryl Shepherd, was visiting from New York and staying at Belcher's home.
The Star's report says Shepherd heard her son scream, "You can't talk to me like that!" just before 8 a.m. Shepherd denied an interview when she was
reached by USA TODAY Sports' Jim Corbett on Sunday.
SORROW AND ANGER: K.C. still reeling from tragedy
Before Belcher shot himself in the head after talking with Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli, head coach Romeo Crennel and an assistant coach in the parking lot, he said the following via The Star's report:
"I did it," he said, according to police. "I killed her."
Police Sgt. Richard Sharp is cited in The Star, saying that the Chiefs knew about the couple's problems and were "bending over backward" trying to help by provided counseling.
Sharp also believed that as Belcher was driving to Arrowhead Stadium, the reality that he shot Perkins must have begun to sink in and "he probably realized he had done something and he couldn't go back."
Sharp said Pioli tried to persuade Belcher to put the weapon down to which Belcher responded by thanking Pioli and asking if he and (Chiefs chairman and CEO) Clark Hunt could take care of his daughter.
DAUGHTER: Belcher's mother gets custody
When Crennel and assistant coach Gary Gibbs arrived in the parking lot, Crennel also tried to stop Belcher.
"I was trying to get him to understand that life is not over," Crennel told The Star. "He still has a chance and let's get this worked out.''
