KUSA - An 81-year-old grandfather and former teacher is among those missing after the flooding in Lyons.
On the morning of the flood, Gerry Boland left home in his pickup truck, his wife, Charon, left in her car. They became
separated as they tried to navigate through the rising floodwaters.
Charon got stuck in the high water and had to be rescued from her car.
"I went back to check on him, and I had to be pulled out," Charon said. "They pulled me out and put me on a back loader (sic) and took me to the elementary school."
Charon and other family members believe Gerry went back to their house to look for her. On Tuesday, his empty truck was found about two blocks from their home.
Gerry was a teacher at Lyons Elementary for three decades, and community members are helping search for him.
"He was just a great role model for his kids and well-loved by the
community and his family, I just wish he'd be safe," said Charon.
The family says they just want Gerry back, even if that means it's just to give him the proper burial that he deserves.
