GREENSBORO - Television ratings for the Republican National Convention are down this year from 2008.
The first night of the 2012 convention drew an estimated 22.3 million viewers. In 2008, the first night has 23.1 million people watching.
Neilsen reports 15 million viewers Tuesday night were 55 years or older. The total number of viewers from age 18 to 34 was 1.5 million.
Even though TV ratings are down, the twitter numbers are up. Tweets with #GOP2012 topped two million as Vice President Nominee, Paul Ryan took the stage Wednesday night. That number is six times more than the tweets during the entire 2008 GOP convention.
By the time Ryan finished, twitter traffic peaked the highest of the evening at 6,669 tweets per minute.
