Flashback Story: July 2007 (20th Anniversary Of Dirty Dancing)

Salisbury, NC and Pembroke, VA -- 80's movie buffs would recognize the last scene of Dirty Dancing even with their eyes closed.

But Patsy Reynolds knows the scene better than most.

"It was the most fun, just the most fun."

She saches right by the camera. Did you miss her? No wonder.

"I'm a nanosecond in this movie, don't blink. Hahahaha!"

Patsy lived a dream, and thousands set out to walk in her footsteps every year.

"We have people come from all over the world," says Buzz Scanland, general manager of Mountain Lake Resort.

Their quest leads them to the Mountain Lake Resort, Pembroke, Virginia.

"When they find out where the movie was made, they come."

They come to see the spot where Baby first laid eyes Johnny.

"She stared into the dining room where Jack Weston, the owner of the hotel was giving the waiter's instructions."

To stay in the cabin where the Houseman's stayed.

"That is probably the most sought after cottage."

Even to see a small space in the kitchen where "Penny" cowered and cried.

Executive Chef Mike Porterfield shows us. "They want to see the corner. This is the infamous corner."

But most of all they come to dance.

"This is the famous gazebo where they had the dance. Now every Monday night we're recreating the dance from the movie, and we put the lanterns up like they have in the movie," says Scanland.

The staff quarters were where the real dirty dancing was happening, but even though the sign is in Virginia, the dancing was happening in North Carolina.

"The name on my contract said Dancin', D-A-N-C-I-N. That's really all I knew," says Reynolds.

She landed a part as a dancer in the movie.

"They had some other dancers that were semi-professional, and their dancing was a bit different from the rest of our dancing."

She wasn't one of those dancers.

"I danced behind the man who owned the inn, Mr. Kellerman."

Looking for her blond locks won't help.

"They sprayed my hair this nasty brown with this Nestle color spray, is it okay that I say Nestle on air?"

That brown hair wasn't the only thing that made her cringe.

"Nobody puts Baby in a corner, blah! "

Cheesy lines aside, Patsy says she had the time of her life.

"I look at it and think, yeah, I really was there."

Dirty Dancing filming was split pretty evenly between Virginia and North Carolina. Most of the outdoor scenes were shot at Mountain Lake Resort. Most of the indoor scenes were shot at Lake Lure. Most of the sets were built for the movie and are gone today.
