Greensboro, NC -- The man accused of skidding off the road and injuring two children is speaking out. Police say he was drunk when it happened, but Michael Parks claims he was sober.

Police charged him with DWI, driving with a revoked license, and not stopping at a stop sign. Officers tell WFMY News 2 Parks ran into a 12-year-old boy, then hit a tree that fell on another boy.

The 12-year-old remained in critical condition Wednesday night at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.

We asked Michael Parks what happened. "I was just putzing around the neighborhood in the van and I just don't know how everything went so wrong."

Parks insists he doesn't remember what happened, and must have passed out behind the wheel. "I would never want to harm a kid," says Parks. "I mean I feel terrible."

He calls the DWI charge unfair. "I was stone cold sober when this happened I guarantee you that," says Parks. "I hadn't drank in three days and I hadn't taken drugs, marijuana in over four."

Parks blames exhaustion for the crash. He says he hadn't slept in days. He has a previous DWI conviction. Judges dismissed two other DWI charges against him.
