Pierre The Penguin Gets Fitted For Wet Suit

San Francisco, CA -- What's black and white and warm all over? A penguin in a wetsuit, naturally.

Biologists at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco had a custom-made wetsuit created for an african penguin to help him get back in the swim of things.

25-year-old Pierre was going bald. Without his waterproof feathers, he was unwilling to get in the water while his peers played. But Pierre's new wet suit fastens with velcro at the back, covers pierre's torso and has small openings for his flippers.

Since getting the suit, Pierre has gained weight and grown back feathers on his hind parts. The other penguins have accepted Pierre's sleek new look.
