Denton, NC-- The Denton FarmPark is known as being the hub of steam engines, antique farm equipment and its annual Threshers Reunion. But this year, the FarmPark is creating a new chilly wintertime event to celebrate Christ's birth. During a ride aboard the Country Christmas Train, you'll not only warm up, but you'll also see woods lit up with holiday decorations, and watch a short movie about the Christmas story.

You'll be able to belt out your favorite carols at the church, hear the story of the song, "Silent Night," give your wish list to Santa, hear outstanding choirs and warm up with hot chocolate and cookies. Food and heritage crafts will be available.

The Country Christmas Train will operate on Friday and Saturday nights, beginning on November 28 until December 19.

"We want to put Christ back into Christmas," says general manager Karen Miller. "The season has become so commercialized that we've lost the sense of what Christmas is all about. So we are focusing upon Jesus and the miracle of His birth for our holiday festivities. And, we think people who have ridden the Handy Dandy diesel train in the past will enjoy this new wintertime experience. It will be something different. We hope church groups will find this event refreshing."

Musical groups and choirs throughout the area will perform. A regional favorite, The Caroleers, will sing on December 4. The vibrant a capella group is based at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church in Thomasville. Since 1994, the group has logged more than 30 performances at the Biltmore House in Asheville and has performed at Chinqua-Penn Plantation in Reidsville.

The Trail of Trees will showcase Christmas trees decorated by students from Silver Valley Elementary School, Denton Elementary School and South Davidson Middle School.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12 years old and free for pre-schoolers. Discount rates are available for groups with 15 people or more. Pre-registration is required by calling 336-859-2755 or emailing klm2567@windstream.net Group rates are $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. A special children's activity is $1 per child.

Hours are 5:30-9 p.m. Train rides begin at 6 p.m., departing every 30 minutes, with the last ride departing at 8 p.m. The entrance to the Country Christmas Train at the Denton FarmPark is 4259 Handy Road, off N.C. Hwy. 49 south of Asheboro. Handicapped parking is accessible.
