Richland, WA -- Hold the doughnut jokes. But police in the Tri-Cities area of Washington state were all over the case of the stolen doughnut truck.
Dispatchers issued an all-points bulletin shortly after the theft of a Viera's Bakery van was reported early Friday. A Benton County sheriff's deputy quickly spotted the truck and a chase ensued. Richland police got it to stop and arrested driver Steve Swoboda.
Officers say the entire load was recovered intact, including glazed, sugar and cream doughnuts, as well as apple fritters and bear claws.
Richland Police Captain Randy Barnes says he's never had a case like it in his 24 years in law enforcement.
