New York, NY -- With thousands of toys on the market, how do you know what's hot this holiday season? On Monday, the nominations for toys of the year were unveiled at Bryant Park.
The Hexbug Nano Hive, Lala-Loopsy Silly Hair Doll, Project Runway Fashion Design Kit - all in the running for Toy of the Year. More than 500 toys and games are submitted in 11 categories, and fewer than 60 make it this far.
Among the toys nominated, the latest from Legos and SpyNet Video glasses.
Adrienne Appell, from the Toy Industry Association, said the Leappad Explorer is also hot. It's a tablet for kids with music, games and more.
Bob Friedland from Toys R Us says this year the new line of Nerf Blasters is big, along with quirky plush toys like Ugly Dolls and the Trash Pack collection of squishy characters that kids collect and trade. But he says don't get caught up in the "must have" hype.
"There is no one hot toy, it's really about knowing what your child is looking forward to and what they're going to appreciate."
So we went to the real experts for their wish list!
Laila Harrison, 7 Years Old: "A remote-controlled Barbie car."
Gloria Milos, 7 Years Old: "A big stuffed animal elephant."
Tessa Weiss, 7 Years Old: "I want an i-Touch."
Adam Koffler, 8 Years Old: "Nerf guns and fire Kindle."
Sumner Strumph, 13 Years Old: "Mainly electronics, like the new earphone speech, and a Mac Book which I doubt is going to happen."
But the little ones tell me there's lots to look forward to.
Victorea Baruch-Santana, 6 Years Old: "I love the candy canes and the tree and...the most great thing that I know for Christmas is Santa Claus."
