Burlington, NC-- Police in Burlington are investigating an accident involving a van that may have malfunctioned which caused several collisions.

Police were called around 1:20pm to the 3700 block of Tartan Lane for what was believed to be a hit and run. Officers learned that it was not a hit and run.

Instead, they said a 2002 Dodge Caravan driven by 75 year-old Adelene Cousins hit a small tree on Tartan Lane. After hitting the tree, they said the van continued across the street, hit a man in his yard, continued between two houses and collided with another house. The van driver was able to finally stop after hitting some bushes.

The man who was hit in his yard was not seriously injured, according to investigators. They said Cousins was not injured during any of the collisions.

Police said their premlinary investigation has revealed that the contributing factor to the crash was either a malfunction with the vehicle or the driver was disoriented.

No charges have been filed and the investigation is still ongoing.

According to police, estimated damage to the Dodge van is $4000.00, damage to the house is estimated at $20,000 and damage to the tree and bushes is estimated at $100.
