Asheville, NC-- Members of controversial Westboro Baptist Church were in North Carolina Tuesday morning to protest Billy Graham and his organization.
About a dozen people representing the Topeka, Kan.-based church were at the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove.
Just after 8 a.m., they left for Montreat, where they continued their protest.
Brandishing signs, some of which featured slurs and depictions of sexual acts, the group claims Graham abuses his position of influence for the purpose of gaining power and wealth rather than preaching the true word of God.
About 15 counterprotesters from Asheville were on hand, taking issue with the Westboro group. The counterprotesters said God is love, not hate, and the Westboro people are preaching hate.
